'New Moon' Star Michael Sheen Is Very Charitable

The Twilight Saga: New Moon and Alice In Wonderland star Michael Sheen is certainly a fan favorite to many because of his constancy of forthright and fun contact with fans through Twitter (see here, for example, for Sheen's response to a question about whether the Volturi could be happy).

Apparently, there's a new reason to love Sheen: he's also very charitable.

Michael Sheen offered his support for the Warrington Guardian’s charity of the year after talking to founder Alison McCausland at the Queen’s New Year’s Honours ceremony in June.

When Alison first saw Michael, who has starred as Tony Blair in The Queen and Brian Clough in The Damned United, she thought she recognised him and then realised it was from the big screen.

The pair were talking while they waited to meet the Queen and Michael gave Alison his e-mail address and said he wanted to learn more about the charity.

Several e-mails later the actor agreed to become a patron of the charity which strives to develop healthy relationships.

Alison said: “He has always been interested in young people and has worked with them in Wales.

“I just think he is an example that it doesn’t matter if somebody is from the area it is the support that we get.”

Michael – who is currently filming The Special Relationship where he will play Tony Blair for the third time and stars as a vampire in forthcoming movie The Twilight Saga: The New Moon – particularly liked the drive of the charity and the idea of the life skills academy.

Staff at the Gateway-based charity hope Michael will be able to pay a visit to the town in the near future.

Dance the night away and show your support for the Life Skills Academy Appeal at an evening of live entertainment.

The fun-filled evening on August 7 at the Beechwood Centre, Runcorn, will include performances from Jason Paul Ryan, Ireland’s Pop Idol winner and Paula Martine, a Welsh singer.

The event will start at 7.30pm. Call 246910 to buy a £10 ticket. All proceeds will go towards the appeal to help the most disadvantaged young people in the community achieve their potential.
